IN MEMORIAM: Elwyn K. Sheldon, 77;

Retired Union Contractor, Well Driller

“Skip” Sheldon

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Elwyn K. “Skip” Sheldon, 77, of Division Street, a union contractor and well-driller, passed away peacefully on Monday Dec. 10, 2018 in his home.

Elwyn was born Feb. 11, 1941 in Herkimer, a son to the late Elwyn A. and Thelma Griffiths Sheldon. He was raised and educated in Richfield Springs.

Skip was a heavy equipment mechanic and a union contractor with Local 1249 IBEW. He also was in the well-drilling business for many years, retiring in 1995.

In March 1959 he married the former June Elizabeth Demorest, a union of 35 years until her passing in 1994. He then married the former Barbara Nagelschmidt on Feb. 14, 1998.

Skip was a member of Richfield Springs Lodge No. 482 F&AM and later with Winfield Lodge No. 581 F&AM, as well as New York State Well Drillers Association.

Besides his wife Barbara, surviving him are three sons; Donald Sheldon and his wife Susan of VanHornesville, Mel Sheldon and his wife Vanessa of Warren, Robert Sheldon and his wife Brenda of Jacksonville, Fla., three daughters; Gwen Sheldon of Toddsville, Michelle Sheldon and her husband Wayne of Warren, Dawn Burke and her husband Jon of West Winfield, three sisters; E. Kay Moyer and her husband Robert of VanHornesville, E. Kathy Steere and her husband Karl of Fly Creek, Jaye Sheldon and her wife Rachael of Florida, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He preceded in death by his grandson Erik Lee Sheldon and two great-grandsons Cameron and Gradon Valenta.

Calling hours for Mr. Sheldon will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs with a funeral service to follow at 6:00. Interment will take place this spring in Springfield Center Cemetery. Expressions of Sympathy in his memory may be made in donations to the charity of your choice.
