IN MEMORIAM: Juel S. Luscomb, 82;

Teacher, Tri-Town Theatre Standout

SIDNEY – Juel Smith Luscomb, an English teacher who filled starring roles at the Tri-Town Theatre in Bainbridge in the 1960s, entered paradise on Jan. 9, 2019.

The daughter of Robert E. Smith and Evelyn Stark Smith, she was born in Waverly, Pa., in 1936 and graduated from high school in Sidney in 1954. She married Douglas A. Luscomb, formerly of Walton, in 1959. He predeceased her in November 2016. Their son Scott and his wife Joanne have four children:  Michael, Seth, Rachel and Joseph.

Juel was predeceased by her brother Bob Smith in the winter of 2017. Her brother Stark Smith and his wife Sheila live in Florida. She has a loving nephew and six wonderful nieces.

Juel became a beloved high school English teacher in Bainbridge and Sidney schools for over 30 years.

She had a beautiful singing voice and carried leading roles in Sidney’s Tri Town Theatre in the 1960s and ’70s. Friends and family will deeply miss her generosity and sense of humor.

Her enduring faith in God and her passion for truth were an inspiration to everyone. She was a fearless friend of the underdog and a vigorous American patriot as well.
