Alex Shields Marks 80th Birthday;

Served 2 Terms On County Board

Alexander J. Shields, the veteran county representative and politician, celebrates his 80th birthday today. An Oneonta native, Shields attended St. Mary's School, served in the Air Force, and later obtained a bachelor's degree from SUNY Oneonta. He served as president of the Oneonta JAYCEES, and chaired the county Bicentennial Parade committee in 1976. He and wife Barbara have resided for four decades in Richfield Springs, and he represented District 9 (Richfield, Springfield) on the Otsego County Board of Representatives in the 1990s. He and wife Barbara have resided for four decades in Richfield Springs.  For 10 years, (1984-93), he represented District 9 (Richfield, Springfield) on the Otsego County Board of Representatives.
