IN MEMORIAM: Beverly J. Graves, 89;

Retired OHS Cook Lived On Crumhorn

MARYLAND – Beverly J. Graves, 89, of Crumhorn Mountain, retired cook at Oneonta High School, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, at Fox Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Russell and Doris (Duggleby) Wilson. Bev graduated from Oneonta High School.

On Oct. 5, 1947, she married Lawrence M. Graves Jr. Larry predeceased her on Jan. 21, 2007. Larry and Bev lived in West Oneonta for many years where they raised their family before moving to Crumhorn Mountain.

For more than 20 years, Bev worked in the cafeteria as the cook at Oneonta High School. Following her retirement she began working as a cook at ARC Otsego.

In her younger years, Bev and her sister used to sing on WDOS. She enjoyed gardening and swimming at the Y. Bev was a social butterfly. She enjoyed time spent with her family and friends.

Bev was a member of the West Oneonta Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the West Oneonta Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Graves and Nancy Hicks (“that girl”), and Gary and Linda Graves; and her daughter-in-law, Lori Graves; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Santobuono and husband, Paul, Josh Graves and wife, Sara, Adon Graves, Jessica Griffiths and husband, Dan, Shannon Isbell Graves, Corey Graves and Breanna Knapp and husband, George; six great-grandchildren, Rileigh and Deeghan Griffiths, Ryder Graves, Emma and Zander Santobuono and Greyson Graves; sisters, Sandra Wilson; JoAnn Lanty; sister-in-law, June Wilson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, Terry Graves; sister, Mary Wilson Judd; and brother, Russell Wilson.

Graveside memorial services will be held in the spring in Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

  1. So sorry to hear about Aunt Bev. Lovley person, with a great laugh.
    She will be missed by many.

  2. To Gary and Larry and all- My thoughts and prayers with you all. I remember your mom always welcoming us. Saw her at church a couple of years ago soon after Terry had passed. We will all be united again one day and will all be laughing and singing once again. Blessings to you all. Joyce Knapp Fraser.
