Club Donates $2,500 to Local Nonprofits
ONEONTA—On Monday, August 4, members of the Hudson Highlands Retread Motorcycle Club rode into the Helios Care office, where they made a $2,000.00 donation to Helios Care and a $500.00 donation to the local Alzheimer’s Association. These contributions stem from the club’s annual fundraisers and the steady support of its dedicated members, officials said.
To date, Helios Care, formerly Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, has received more than $20,000.00 from the group, with the first donation dating back to 1994.
According to Helios Care Director of Development Kathryn Dailey, the motorcycle club’s ongoing generosity reflects not only a passion for riding but also a deep-rooted belief in giving back to their community.
“We feel good about raising money for local organizations,” said Betty Slavinski, president of the Hudson Highlands Club. “The money stays right here and goes to help our neighbors.”
“We look forward to this every year. We love to see the Spyder motorcycles come in and park at our Helios Care door,” Dailey said. “Our new CEO, Joan MacDonald, even got to ride on one of the Spyders!”
Helios Care officials said unrestricted donations made by local groups are essential in order for the organization to provide services in the community that are not reimbursable by insurance. These types of services include spiritual care, massage therapists, bereavement support and counseling, as well as the Kids’ Camp Forget-Me-Not for children who have lost a loved one.
