IN MEMORIAM:  Dee Mahalick, Food Pantry Founder

CHERRY VALLEY – Glora K. (Dee) Mahalick , 71, founder of the Daily Bread Food Pantry here, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014 at Bassett Hospital.

She was born Dec. 10, 1942, in Amityville, the daughter of Peter and Estell (Staudt) Swass.  She was married to Robert Charles Mahalick in 1973, he predeceased her in 2000.

Before moving to Cherry Valley she worked for Grummons in Bethpage.

Survivors include her sons, Scott, Mike and Robert C. Mahalick Jr., and siblings James and Robert Shenchenko. She was predeceased by her brother Gary Swass.

Dee loved Cherry Valley and, in addition to creating the food pantry, volunteered at the Clothing Closet.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, in the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley. A luncheon will follow.

Contributions in Dee’s memory are asked to be sent to Scott Mahalick, Box 103, Cherry Valley, NY  13320 to help defray expenses.
