NEW FOUNDATION IN PLACE

Flagpole Dedication May

Happen Pearl Harbor Day

The foundation installed by Mulligan Excavating is curing at Main and Pioneer, Cooperstown, awaiting the installation of a new 50-foot flagpole – up from 35 feet – as soon as next Wednesday. The hope is to dedicate the new standard on Dec. 7, 2017, 76 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor, according to Village Administrator Teri Barown.   This year is the 100th anniversary of the flagpole’s installation during World War I.   The original wooden one was replaced with a steel one at the end of World War II.  That 50-foot one was knocked down in 2007 when a truck cut the corner too sharply, and the 35-foot replacement was installed then, only to be removed in September to all the reconstruction of Pioneer Street.  (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
