SIDNEY – Emalyn S. Bidwell, 89, who retired from SUNY Oneonta Ancillary Services, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

She was born on Jan. 21, 1927, in Santa Monica, Calif., daughter of the late Frank I. and Edna Elizabeth (Risley) Smith.

Emalyn went to Hancock High School and Albany College.

She was a former member and past president of the Sidney Fire Department Ladies Auxilary, a former member of the Legion Auxiliary and an honorary member of Cartwright Hook & Ladder. She enjoyed cross stitching and reading. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be missed by: four children: Christine (Mike) Blincoe, Herbert (Maureen) Bidwell, Lynda (Charlie) Washburn and Ralph (Karen) Bidwell; eight grandchildren: Michael (Michele) Blincoe, Elizabeth (Tony) Beers, Eric Blincoe, Jennifer (Ernie) Pappas, Charlie Washburn, Jessica (Christopher) Decker, Herbert Bidwell, Jr. and Robert Bidwell; several great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Louise Smith; nephews Scott and Allen Smith and niece, Kathy Hunter.

In addition to her parents, Emalyn was predeceased by her son, Frank E. Bidwell, her brother, Edwin Thomas Smith and his son, David.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the funeral chapel, with Rev. Ben Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
