IN MEMORIAM: James M. Kenik, 68;

Longtime SUNY Employee Loved Cars

ONEONTA – James M. Kenik, Sr., 68, a car buff and longtime SUNY Oneonta employee, passed away July 5, 2019, at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Oneonta, after a long illness.

He was born Oct. 22, 1950, in Oneonta, the son of Math and Doris (Scanlon) Kenik. James was a life-long Oneonta resident and graduated from Oneonta High School.

He loved cars, hot rods and building cars.  He has worked for several local garages.  Jim was employed at SUNY Oneonta for over 25 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Robert Opalecky; his son, James Kenik, Jr.; grandchildren, Lincoln and Rylee Opalecky; his brother, Michael Kenik and nieces, Karen Fisher and Krista Goins.

He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be from noon to the service time at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, at the Lewis, Hurley & Pietrobono Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with David O’Brien officiating.

Burial will follow at the Maryland Cemetery.
