John H. “Jack” Edwards, Jr., 82, of Creekview Drive, McConnellsville, Oneida County, who spent his career helping develop the electronic defense of the U.S. at Griffis Air Force Base, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2015, in the comfort of his home.

He was born on Feb. 28, 1933, in Oneonta, the son of John H. Edwards Sr. and Marguerite Cline.  Jack was raised in Cooperstown by his grandmother, Hazel Spavento.

He graduated from Cooperstown High School and received his bachelor of science in physics from Utica College of Syracuse University.

On March 29, 1958, Jack was united in marriage to Ann G. Nielsen in Hartwick Seminary.

Jack served in the Coast Guard in 1953-1957, and as a  civilian employee for the Rome Air Development Center at Griffiss AFB from 1963 until his retirement in 1989.  He then went to work as a contractor for Veda for several years.

Jack was active in the Boy Scouts of America as a child and continued his participation into his adulthood.  He was also the #2 clarinetist in New York State at one time, something he was very proud of.

He was a lifetime member of the Camden American Legion Moran Post and their 40 and 8.  An avid hunter and fisherman, he was an active member of the Camden Rod’n’Gun Club.  He enjoyed playing golf.

Beside Ann, his loving wife of 57 years, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Edwards of McConnellsville, and Kristina and Arthur Crossman, of Camden; a son and daughter-in-law, Sherrill and Shaunene Edwards of Camas, Wash.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.

He was predeceased by an infant grandson, Gregory Crossman.
