COOPERSTOWN – It’s been quite a week for the Groff family of Cooperstown, mom Jeannine reports.

  • Novelist Lauren Groff’s short-story collection, “Florida,” advanced to the top 10 candidates for this year’s National Book Award in the fiction category. Lauren’s “Fates and Furies,” hailed by President Obama as his favorite book of 2015, made the top 10 list that year.
  • Her sister, Olympian Sarah Groff, finished as first American women in fourth place at the Kona Ironman/Ironwoman Championships.  The first four women to place yesterday all beat the prior course record.

The sisters are children of Jeannine and Dr. Gerald Groff.
