How Quickly Dorm Fires Spread

Members of the OHS senior class Michelle Chen and Dan Mazzei, left, watch as a mock dorm room goes up in flames during a live burn at the high school this morning. The burn illustrated how quickly a fire can spread through a living space. In this case the room was completely consumed in less that three minutes. The live burn was the second part of a Life and Safety class taught by Cpt. Brad Smith of the Oneonta fire department, to teach seniors kitchen, fire and dorm safety. Highlights included proper cooking of food, how to use fire extinguishers, heeding alarms and more. (Ian Austin/AllOTSEGO.com)
