LWVCA Hosts National Security Correspondent J.J. Green

COOPERSTOWN—The League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area welcomes award-winning journalist and national security correspondent J.J. Green to speak at the Cooperstown High School Auditorium on Thursday, September 17 from 5-6 p.m. His talk will focus on mis- and disinformation; how to recognize it and how to combat it. This is a critical topic for voters, parents, students and teachers as we approach the midterm elections in November. The event is free and open to the public.

According to a press release, Green serves as the national security correspondent for WTOP in Washington, DC, where he reports on intelligence, foreign policy, terrorism, cybersecurity and international security. Throughout his career, Green has earned a reputation for his principled commitment to freedom of the press, including his refusal to accept restrictions on journalists imposed by the Pentagon. He is also the host of the weekly podcast, “Target USA,” which examines national security threats facing the United States, and the weekly broadcast program, “The Hunt,” which explores emerging terrorist threats around the world.

In March 2025, Green published “The Noise War: How to Fight Disinformation and Find the Truth When Everything Is Lying to You,” his examination of the growing challenge of disinformation in American public life. The book explores how “flood the zone” tactics, once associated primarily with authoritarian regimes, have increasingly undermined elections, public institutions and civic trust in the United States. Drawing on real-world examples and practical strategies, Green offers readers tools for recognizing, resisting and responding to disinformation before it takes hold.

Copies of “The Noise War” will be available for purchase and signing following the lecture; each of the first 10 people seated will receive a complimentary copy.
