Letter from Nicholas Marcantonio

Former Teacher Runs for Board

My name is Nicholas Marcantonio and I am a candidate for the Cooperstown Central School Board of Education.

I am a recently retired math teacher at CCS (18 years), who brings corporate experience from Verizon (16 years) following over 20 years of active and reserve service in the U.S. Navy. I am still an adjunct professor of mathematics at SUNY Oneonta.

I am running for the Board of Education to stay involved in the Cooperstown district and community. When I taught here, I was very active with the school and its students, as an educator and also as the senior class advisor. I know the district, its policies and its incredible strengths. I worked closely with fellow educators on curriculum, committees and planning educational opportunities for students. As an advisor, I worked closely with parent, village, and student groups to organize events like the senior trip, prom, and graduation.

As a member of the board, I would bring all of my experience and knowledge to the job. My military background gave me the discipline and stamina to do a job and do it right. That means working with others and creating a team-like atmosphere. Corporate experience from Verizon taught me to always be prepared for the known, to try to anticipate the unknown and to communicate with various stakeholders. Finally, as a teacher I learned how to take complex topics and explain them to a wide audience.

Fiscal pressure combined with state requirements requires due diligence by district administration and the board. The need to work collaboratively is paramount to maintain standards of excellence. This can only be accomplished through the teamwork of the superintendent, the board, faculty members and the community. I want to be a part of that team.
I ask for your vote on May 19.
