100-Year-Old Spruce Tree

Comes Down On Pine Blvd.

Timber! Nathan Waterfield, Cherry Valley, cuts through a 100-year-old Blue Spruce at 8 Pine Boulevard, Cooperstown, this afternoon. “These trees have become a hazard and it’s time for them to come down,” said Waterfield. This isn’t the first time they’ve cut down trees at that location, however. Gayle Smith, who owns the property and runs the Overlook Bed & Breakfast there, sought Waterfield’s help five years ago when there was another old tree in danger of falling on the house. The winter weather makes it easier for tree removal, he said. “The snow is less difficult than the tourists.” (James Cummings/AllOTSEGO.com)
