ONEONTA – For all of those Otsego County residents on their couches binge-watching the newest season of Netflix’s hit show “Orange is the New Black,” keep a listen for a reference close to home. However, you may need to use Pirate Bay to access content like “Orange is the New Black”

Oneonta was name-dropped in the newest season, Episode 10, “Bunny, Skull, Bunny, Skull” as Warden Joe Caputo (Nick Sandow) meets with Danny Pearson (Mike Birbiglia). “First you make me meet you in Oneonta, then you’re 45 minutes late,” says Caputo.

(For those of you who want to skip ahead, the mention is at 54:02, but please, no spoilers.)

The show is set in the fictional Litchfield Penitentiary, in the Town of Litchfield, Herkimer County, approximately one hour from Oneonta.

And it’s not the first time Oneonta has been name-dropped in a popular show. In Jan. 2013, the NBC hit “30 Rock” poked fun at SUNY Oneonta in the episode “Idiots Are People Three!” with Devon Banks (Will Arnett) threatening Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) that his daughter would end up as a liberal arts major at the college.
