CONGRESSMAN’s 1st DAY IN D.C.

Otsego County Office?  Maybe

Mobile One, Delgado Suggests

U.S. Rep. Antonio Delgado today said he couldn’t “say for sure” he would open an office in Otsego County.

Calling New York’s District 19 constituents his “North Star,” Delgado said he is opening offices in Delhi and in Kingston this month, but he is still deciding whether there will be an “actual physical office (in Otsego County) or a mobile office.”

Delgado spoke by conference call to members of the 19th District press corps today from his office in Washington, D.C.  Elected Nov. 6, it was the first day of his two-year term.

Acknowledging the importance of winning Otsego County in November, Delgado said, “Otsego is an area we want to have a presence in,” adding, “I plan to hold townhalls in every county before the end of the year.”

Delgado’s predecessor, John Faso, R-Kinderhook, had been criticized for a lack of engagement.

Faso had offices in Delhi, Kingston and Kinderhook but – unlike former Congressman Chris Gibson, his predecessor, who had former Mayor Carol B. Waller staffing a Cooperstown site – did not have an office in Otsego County.

In response to a follow-up email on what a mobile office would look like, Delgado’s communications director Laura Epstein, wrote, “Mobile offices are office hours that will be advertised in advance where we don’t have an office; they are one of the many ways (Congressman) Delgado will ensure to be in close contact with folks across the district.

“They will be regularly scheduled and opportunities for people to share their views, as well as get questions answered, for instance on veterans’ services or their Social Security benefits.”
