Public Hearing Set On Former Agway

COOPERSTOWN – The Village Board this evening set a public hearing for its next meeting, Monday, June 27, on a 22-room motel planned at 28 Railroad Ave., the former Agway that, renovated, has been vacant since 2009.

The project is being proposed by Perry Ferrara, owner of the Heroes of Baseball Wax Museum and a partner BTP Cooperstown, the partnership that proposed a four-story hotel on Main Street last year.  However, the partnership is not involved in this venture.

The building has been owned by Mike Manno, but the trustees, meeting this evening, said they believed Ferrara had “an ownership interest,” which would allow him to proceed with the regulatory process.

The site plan has already been reviewed by the village Planning Board and no variances are required through the Zoning Board of Appeals, which opens the way for the Village Board to approve a “special-use permit” after the June 27 public hearing.

  1. As long as they don’t tear it down-piece of history right there. My mother used to work there part time in the late 70’s – early 80’s. I wish the town would do more for the locals that live there year round. Its hard for them to find good parking spots to do their errands & such. I don’t think a local should have to pay to park or walk a gazzilion blocks especially if they are elderly just to perform a task in town.
