IN MEMORIAM: Richard Bateman, 84;

Farmer In New Hampshire, Edmeston

EDMESTON – Richard J. “Dick” Bateman Sr, 84, of Edmeston, retired dairy farmer,  passed away on Wednesday May 24, 2017, in Cooperstown.

Dick was born on Aug. 25, 1932, in Exeter, N.H., the son of the late Arthur H. and Laura Mae Woods Bateman.

He grew up in Lee, N.H., where he managed the family dairy farm until 1986, when he moved his family to Edmeston. He continued dairy farming in Edmeston until his retirement.

He was a Korean War veteran.

Dick is survived by his wife Mary of Edmeston, his five children, Jeanie (Fenton) Groat of Walton, Rick (Barb) Bateman of Edmeston, Scott (Gina) Bateman of Pittsfield, James (Laura) Bateman of Edmeston, and Bill (Dorothy) Bateman of Edmeston. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be private, and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to the Delker and Terry Funeral Home 30 South Street Edmeston.

Donations in memory of Dick may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Northeastern/Leatherstocking Region 140 HWY 33 West Suite 2 Cooperstown, NY 13326.

In Memoriam: Albert Hughes

ONEONTA—Albert J. Hughes, 91, passed away at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown on December 18, 2023.
He was born August 6, 1932 in the Town of Butternuts, the son of Adelbert M. and Elizabeth (Whitney) Hughes.
He married Cegret Turnbull in 1960.
Albert was a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War. 
He was a chef at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, retiring in 1994, then was a self-employed carpenter for 20 years.…
