IN MEMORIAM:  Richard G. Stimpson, 67;

Retired SUNY Oneonta Carpentry Supervisor

LAURENS – Richard G. Stimpson, 67, of Laurens, retired supervisor of SUNY Oneonta’s carpentry shop, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Bassett Hospital.

Richard was born in Oneonta on Sept. 30, 1949, the son of the late Ralph and Florence (Brown) Stimpson.

He married the love of his life, Julieann R. Smith on Nov. 13, 1971.  She passed away on Feb. 19, 2015.

Richard spent 38 years at SUNY Oneonta before his retirement.  Previously, he worked for his father at American Cleaners and then at Medicoach as a cabinet maker.

Richard enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating and hunting.  He was especially pleased to find that his grandchildren shared his enjoyment and enthusiasm for many of these activities and loved spending time with them teaching them the ropes.

Survivors include his son, Jeremy Stimpson; grandchildren, Michael and Mackenzie Stimpson and their mother, Kimberly Erickson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Mildred (Barnes) Smith; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carole and Robert Brown and Sandra and Douglas Goodspeed; his sisters-in-law, Cathy Talbot, Joyce Youngs and Lauralee Perry; his brother-in-law, Jim Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He will be missed by his family and all the friends he made throughout his lifetime.  He was predeceased by his best friend, Stanley Mcintyre who was like a brother to Richard.

Calling hours will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St.  A  service to celebrate Richard’s life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Word of Faith Family Christian Center in Maryland, with Pastor Frank MacCracken, Jr. officiating.
