IN MEMORIAM: Ronald Bouchard, 86;

Over 25 Years, Foster Parent To Many

Ron Bouchard

MILFORD – Ronald E. Bouchard, 86, who with his wife Joyce was foster parent to 250 chidren over 25 years, finally went back home on Oct. 8, 2019, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s.

Born in New Brunswick, Canada, to Alfred and Leanne Bouchard, he moved to United States in late 1950s and became a U.S. citizen in 1968.

Ron had many jobs over his life, from lumber-camp cook helper at age 8, uranium miner, electrical tower constructor, carpenter, dairy farmer, and general contractor up to age 78.

He took pride in doing a job well, even in his 70s he could put many younger men to shame.

In addition to Joyce, his wife of 58 years, Ron is survived by daughters Bonita Bouchard and Theresa (Scott) Pickwick; sons Michael (Shelley) Bouchard Sr. and Ricky Bouchard;  nine grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.  Also brother Leopold Bouchard, sister Marguerite Caron, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two children, seven brothers, three sisters and parents.

Ron and Joyce were foster parents to about 250 children over 25 years. He really enjoyed the little kids.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta. Services will follow at 1 p.m.

Alzheimer’s is a demeaning disease. Ron’s family has asked that instead of sending flowers, a donation to either Chase Memorial Nursing Home, P.O. Box 250, New Berlin, NY 13411 or for Alzheimer’s research.
