IN MEMORIAM: Agnes Ruth Valentine, 80;

NYC Native Raised 5 Daughters In Morris

MORRIS – Agnes Ruth Valentine, 80, who raised five daughters in Morris, was called home on April 29, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her loving, family.

Ruth was the daughter of Marie (Sorensen) Hansen and Emil O. Hansen, who were both born in Denmark. Ruth grew up in Brooklyn, an area along the Hudson River, which flows to the Verrazano Bridge, known as Bay Ridge.

She attended P.S. 102 in Brooklyn and graduated 8th grade to then attend high school at Fort Hamilton (which can be seen from the bridge) for two years.

Ruth then moved to New Lisbon and graduated from Morris Central School in 1956. On Oct. 21, 1956, Ruth married Gene L. Valentine at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Laurens.

Ruth worked for 20 years at H.W. Naylor Co., which manufactures medications for livestock, before retiring. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morris.

She is survived by her husband, Gene, of 62 years; daughters Suzanne (Chris) Tabone, Charlene (Robert) Wells, Jeanne Valentine (John Janssen), Jennifer Valentine, and Christine Valentine (Brian King); sisters Emily (Martin) Cullen Jr. and Trudi (Robert) Nagiewicz; sister-in-law Frances Hansen; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents, her brother Phillip John Hansen and sister Ella Sorensen. 

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to First Baptist Church of Morris P.O. Box 96 Morris, NY 13808, The Morris EMS P.O. Box 452 Morris, NY 13808 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Pl Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
