Outlaws Take Early Lead to Beat Boonville

ONEONTA—The Oneonta Outlaws took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and held on to defeat the Boonville Lumberjacks 9-5 on Wednesday, July 5. Oneonta scored three more times in the fourth inning and once in the fifth. Christopher Baillargeon made two hits and drove in two runs. Caden Marsters and Ethan Duda each hit a double, and Duda batted in two runs. Starting pitcher Justin Decastro earned the win after striking out three in five innings. Martin Thorsland, of Maryland, struck out two in two innings and allowed only one hit. Each team made nine hits overall, but the Lumberjacks were unable to cash in. Boonville mounted a strong comeback effort, scoring twice in the seventh inning and again in the eighth. The Outlaws return to Damaschke Field to host the Glens Falls Dragons at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 8.

Windsor Runs Away with Early Lead Against Oneonta

ONEONTA—The Oneonta Green Wave fell to Windsor 8-2 in American Legion league action at Oneonta High School field on Wednesday, July 5. Windsor scored four times in the top of the first inning. Trailing 5-0 by the bottom of the third, the Green Wave responded with a pair of runs by Owen Burnsworth and Maddox Imperato, each on a passed ball. Imperato and Brady Carr each made two hits, the only Oneonta hits of the night. Aidan Gelbsman was stuck with the loss. Grayson Brockington pitched well in relief, striking out four in three innings with one walk.

Retrievers Fall at Union-Endicott

ENDICOTT—The Otego Retrievers of the American Legion District 6 19U baseball league fell to a late-game rally by Union-Endicott on Wednesday, July 5. Otego led 6-5 going into the sixth inning, but U-E scored four times in the bottom of the inning before closing out the seven-inning contest. Garrett Backus went three-for-four with a double and an RBI, but was saddled with the loss after pitching the disastrous sixth inning. Braeden Johnson struck out seven over the first five innings and gave up five runs. JJ Benjamin and Brayden Nichols each made two hits in the loss.

Outlaws Split Home Doubleheader Against Watertown

ONEONTA—The Oneonta Outlaws split a doubleheader against the Watertown Rapids at Damaschke Field on Tuesday, July 11. Oneonta dropped a close first game 6-5. Ryan Packard took the loss after giving up two runs in the sixth inning. Starting pitcher Matthew Dubois struck out eight batters in five innings without allowing an earned run. Christopher Baillargeon and Brody Raleigh each hit a double. Jack Hopko hit a double and a triple.

The Outlaws ran away with the second game 12-1. Ethan Duda hit a massive double in the bottom of the sixth that drove in three runs. Logan Haskell hit a double, drove in two runs and scored twice. Dakota Britt also hit a double. Logan Waldschmidt earned the win, striking out four in four shutout innings.

Green Wave Fall to Endicott

ENDICOTT—The Endicott-82 team of American Legion District 6 baseball took a 5-0 lead in the first inning and cruised to an 8-2 win over the Oneonta Green Wave on Tuesday, July 11. Oneonta put up a small fight in the top of the second as Jameson Brown led off with a single and later scored on a fielder’s choice that put out Maddox Imperato. The Endicott starter pitched four scoreless innings thereafter. Brown led the Green Wave offense with two hits and two runs scored. Adam Champlin and Asa Dugan made the only other Oneonta hits of the night. The Green Wave dropped to 9-10-1 for the season and 6-3-1 in District 6 League play.

Dugan Leads Green Wave Over Endicott

ONEONTA—Asa Dugan threw a complete game shutout in a mercy-ruled shortened contest against Endicott on Wednesday, July 12. One day after the Green Wave fell to Endicott 8-2 on the road, Oneonta came back for a 13-0 home win. Dugan walked no batters and struck out one in a tight 55-pitch performance. He also led the Green Wave offense, going two-for-two, scoring three runs. Aidan Gelbsman started early with a two-run single in the bottom of the first. Oneonta racked up seven runs in the fourth inning on successive two-RBI singles by Adam Champlin and Maddox Imperato. The Green Wave moved to 10-10-1 for the season and 7-3-1 in District 6 league play.

Outlaws Fall to League-Leading Amsterdam

ONEONTA—The Oneonta Outlaws dropped a home game against the Amsterdam Mohawks 7-1 on Thursday, July 13. Caden Marsters drove in Dakota Britt for the one Oneonta run of the night in the ninth inning. Britt and Brody Raleigh each stole a base. Jordan Goble, an Oneonta resident attending Herkimer College, took the loss after striking out one and giving up four runs in five innings.

Outlaws Top Glens Falls

GLENS FALLS—The Oneonta Outlaws mounted a stunning comeback with a six-run eighth inning to beat the Glens Falls Dragons 8-7 on the road on Friday, July 14. Ryan Leary and Anthony Barone scored in the fifth inning on stolen bases and a fielding error. In the eighth inning, Dakota Britt stole second and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice single by Logan Haskell. Both scored on a full-count triple by Christopher Baillargeon. Jack Hopko worked a walk and stole second before Jarod Wade was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Caden Marsters cleared the bases with a monster grand slam, putting Oneonta on top and closing out the scoring for the day. Sean Dertinger earned the win after striking out six in four and one-third innings. Christopher Ubner, of Fly Creek, earned the save after holding the Dragons scoreless for the final two innings. Baillargeon went two-for-four with a double and a triple. Barone went two-for-three with a double. Brody Raleigh hit a double.

Outlaws Drop Doubleheader to Albany

ONEONTA—The Albany Dutchmen swept the Oneonta Outlaws in a doubleheader at Damaschke Field on Saturday, July 15. Oneonta dropped the first game 4-0 after Albany scored three times on errors in the top of the seventh. The Outlaws made only three hits in the seven-inning contest, and were unable to cash in. Joseph Trombley took the loss after striking out three in the complete game.

The Dutchmen ran away with the second game 12-1, scoring four runs in the third and fourth innings on a few wild pitches and passed balls. Patrick Dengler, of Hobart, was saddled with the loss after walking four batters and giving up four runs in two innings. Oneonta made four hits overall and cobbled together a run in fifth inning; Ryan Leary stole second and later scored on an error by the shortstop.

Outlaws Fall in Utica

UTICA—The Oneonta Outlaws dropped a road game, 8-0, to the Utica Blue Sox at Donovan Stadium on Sunday, July 16. The Blue Sox scored five times in the second inning on a series of workmanlike singles. Kyle Mahady took the loss after striking out four and giving up five runs in the first five and two-thirds innings.

Outlaws Defeated at Saugerties

SAUGERTIES—The Oneonta Outlaws dropped a road doubleheader against the Saugerties Stallions on Monday, July 18. Saugerties made a two-run home run and scored again on a single in the fourth inning and won the first game 3-1. Jacob Pipercic stole second base in the third inning and later scored on a single by Christopher Baillargeon for the one Oneonta run of the game. Logan Waldschmidt was the losing pitcher, striking out three and allowing three runs in three innings.

In the second game, the Stallions hit a three-run homer in the second inning and ran off with a 6-2 victory. Dakota Britt scored for the Outlaws in the first inning, hitting a triple and coming home on a fielder’s choice putout. Anthony Barone scored in the fifth after working a walk and taking advantage of a sacrifice fly by Pipercic. Matthew Dubois took the loss, striking out one and giving up five runs in four innings.

Utica Blanks Outlaws

ONEONTA—The Utica Blue Sox took an early lead and shut out the Oneonta Outlaws 7-0 at Damaschke Field on Wednesday, July 19. Utica scored three times in the first inning and continued to consistently produce runs for the rest of the night. Connor Roche, Logan Waldschmidt and Anthony Barone made the only hits of the game for Oneonta. Patrick Dengler was saddled with the loss after giving up four hits and five runs in the first three and one-third innings. He struck out three batters in the loss. There is little more than a week left in the season; the last regular-season games of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League are scheduled for Saturday, July 29. Oneonta fell to 13-24 for the season and Utica moved to 21-10.

Outlaws Drop Close Game to Boonville

BOONVILLE—The Oneonta Outlaws fell 2-1 to the Boonville Lumberjacks in a tight pitcher’s duel on Thursday, July 20. Ryan Leary started the night’s scoring, walking on the first four pitches of the game. He advanced on a fielder’s choice, a stolen base and a wild pitch to give Oneonta an early 1-0 lead. Jordan Goble, an Oneonta native, held the Lumberjacks scoreless and allowed only three hits and three walks for the first six innings. Boonville scored twice on a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. RJ Lakowski was saddled with the loss after giving up the two runs. Jack Hopko hit a double and Connor Roche made two hits.

Saugerties Obliterates Outlaws

ONEONTA—The Oneonta Outlaws were shut out 17-0 in a home bloodbath at Damaschke Field by the Saugerties Stallions on Friday, July 21. Martin Thorsland, of the Town of Maryland, took the loss after giving up five runs in the first five innings. It was the top of the sixth inning, however, when Oneonta burned through three pitchers in a vain attempt to stop an offensive effort that resulted in 10 runs for Saugerties in one inning. Ryan Leary, Brody Raleigh, Connor Roche and Jack Hopko chalked up the only hits for the Outlaws. Oneonta moved to 14-26 for the season.

Outlaws Defeat Watertown

WATERTOWN—The Oneonta Outlaws snapped a seven-game losing streak with a hard-fought 5-3 win against the Watertown Rapids on Sunday, July 23. Jack Hopko hit a leadoff double in the second inning and came home on a single by Anthony Barone. Miguel Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning, followed immediately by Hopko scoring on a wild pitch. Rodriguez batted in two more runs with a single in the sixth inning. Christopher Ubner, of Fly Creek, earned the win on the mound after allowing two runs in two and one-third innings. Waterville put up a strong fight, scoring in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Sean Dertinger earned a save after holding the Rapids hitless for the final two innings.
