Community Hall Of Fame

Oneonta Job Corps kicked off the 6th annual Community Softball game in Damaschke Field on Friday evening as OJCA Director Chis Kuhn, Bob the Bulldog and Jocelyn Plows honored Kristen Winn, FRN, Michelle Zuk, FRN,Lee and Joanne Fisher,NAACP, Sonia Shultis, Tribe Yoga, Molly Swain, community leader & activist, Lynn Bailey, YMCA, Valarie Adams, United Way, and Kimberly Lorraine, United Way, by inducting them into the OJCA Community Partnership Hall Of Fame. Many local service organizations tabled at the event and raffled off backpacks of school supplies to area youth. The came concluded with a spectacular fireworks display. (Ian Austin/AllOTSEGO.com)

Lisa Luysic, Oneonta Family YMCA PiYo instructor, helps Oneonta Job Corps students Ramero Morris, Dwight Gordon and Vidmary Soto work on their flexibility and balance at the Health Fair this afternoon at the OJCA Campus on West Street. The event, held on National Kick B**** Day, celebrated OJCA’s first 100 days as a smoke- and tobacco-free campus. The event featured presentations and tabling by Fox Hospital, Cornell Cooperative Extension, the state Department of Health, the American Cancer Society, and the Oneonta Fire Department as well as an array of activities and door prizes. Kayla LaRock, Worcester, stands and is recognized for her accomplishments during the Oneonta Job Corps Academy Graduation Ceremony this afternoon at the OJCA campus. LaRock received the National Department of Labor Award, titled the “BOOT Award.” This award stands for Better Occupational Opportunities for Tradeswomen and is an award for females in “non-traditional” career fields, such as construction and manufacturing. LaRock plans on going into an apprenticeship in overhead line work in Pittsburg.  “I’m really excited!” she said. “This (program) has got me really far.” (Ian Ausin/AllOTSEGO.com)
