MACMILLAN: Repeating History

Letter from Dr. Roger MacMillan

Repeating History

One reads with dismay and horror about the destruction and atrocities being committed by the Russian forces in the present war in the Ukraine. Apparently such activity has a precedent by such forces
in the past.

In the memoirs written by George Kennan, the noted American diplomat and historian, he wrote of the Soviet westward advance in World War II between Berlin and Moscow as they “liberated” this region. “The disaster that befell this area with the entry of the Soviet forces has no parallel in modern European experience. There were … sections where … scarcely a man, woman, or child was left alive after the initial passage of the Soviet forces. The Russians … swept the native population clean in a manner that had no parallel since the days of the Asiatic hordes.” This was written over 50 years ago!

Apparently the saying about history repeating itself once again is verified. So sad…

MacMILLAN: Robbins Offers Fresh Outlook

LETTER from ROGER MACMILLIAN

Robbins Offers Fresh Outlook

To the Editor:

I wish to clearly support the candidacy of Mary- Margaret Robbins for trustee of the Village of Cooperstown. She is forthright, inventive, courageous and smart, having no hidden agendas.

Her allegiance is to Cooperstown, not any political party, though she does have bipartisan support!

Further, she has the maturity and circumspection to not support flying the rainbow flag from the village flagpole. She represents the opportunity to add another voice of reason to the Village Board.

MacMILLAN: Reserve Village Flagpole For The Stars & Stripes
LETTER from ROGER MacMILLAN

Reserve Village Flagpole

For The Stars & Stripes

To the Editor:

I am opposed to flying the rainbow flag from the Cooperstown village flagpole during Pride Month this June.

Let me make myself clear, I have many friends who have their personal orientation and I fully support them in every sense of the word. As such, it is none of my business concerning their individual persuasion.

However, I believe that the American flag flown from the central village flagpole represents all of us citizens and should not promote a particular minority or cause.

I have been informed that presently “on the books” is a decision by the trustees to fly the rainbow flag on the village flagpole this coming June. The decision by the trustees to do so may be revisited once the new board is elected next week.

I know that Mary Margaret agrees with me concerning the above, so I urge you to vote for her to keep the U.S. flag alone on the village flagpole.

In a previous letter I explained my many reasons for my preference for her and I am voting for Mary Margaret. Remember, every vote counts, so vote in this coming election.

MacMILLAN: Limit Flagpole To Stars, Stripes
LETTER from ROGER MacMILLAN

MacMILLAN: Limit

Flagpole To Stars, Stripes

To the Editor:
The citizens of this village owe you a huge debt of gratitude for last week’s editorial! Its message will hopefully serve as a wake-up call.

Some of the Village Board’s decisions have been stupefying, like injecting a suggestion to fly the POW/MIA flag on the village flagpole. Another future issue will be flying the Rainbow Flag on the village flagpole.

That proposal is outrageous. That flagpole should only fly the national flag, period, and not reflect the arrogance of an individual board member
