Three Mile Point Park Receiving New Swimming Dock

By DANIEL CARRIG
COOPERSTOWN

A new swimming dock will soon be installed at Three Mile Point Park on Otsego Lake, replacing the existing dock in time for the approaching summer season.

The scenic park located on Three Mile Point, also known as Wild Rose Point, offers a beach, swimming dock, and lake access for canoeing and kayaking. The park also features benches, picnic tables, an open picnic pavilion and stationary charcoal grills. A handicapped-accessible fishing pier, donated by the Rotary Club of Cooperstown in 1992, and a handicapped-accessible ramp constructed in memory of Ken Kiser in 2011 provide lake viewing and beach access, and can be reached by vehicle from State Route 80 and by boat from Otsego Lake. Boat docking is available, as well as a hand launch boat site for ice fishing in the winter. Pets are allowed in the park provided they are leashed. Use of the park for organized events or rental of the picnic pavilion requires a permit application to the Village of Cooperstown.

“The new dock at Three Mile will be similar in size with no new additions and will be in place before the Memorial Day opening,” said Village of Cooperstown Public Works Superintendent Mitch Hotaling.

Seasonal operation of Three Mile Point Park runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, with lifeguards on duty for swimming from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sundays only, from Memorial Day to mid-June, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. from mid-June to Labor Day. Park admission is free for local residents and $5.00 per day for non-residents, with seasonal passes available.

Three Mile Point is located at 6266 State Highway 80, Cooperstown on West Lake Road, on the right about two miles north of the Village of Cooperstown. For more information, contact the Village of Cooperstown at (607) 547-2411.
