MILFORD – A father from Milford was accused of shaking his toddler and then nearly hitting him with a car as he drove away.

Troopers were made aware of a dispute at the home of Zachary Kaplan, 26, and during the investigation determined that he had grabbed and shaken the two year-old during a dispute.  He fled the premises, nearly striking the child again, and was arrested by Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputies after he rolled his 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  He was uninjured in the crash.

State Police charged him with two counts of misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $300 cash bail.  The Otsego Sheriff’s Department charged him with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with suspended registration, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, unlicensed operation, speed not reasonable or prudent and driving on slopes and shoulders.

  1. I think that this stuff being posted about someone who has NOT been convicted is awful. The fact that it is spread all over the internet via social media, smearing this guy’s name when he has ONLY BEEN ACCUSED NOT CONVICTED is ridiculous. In our country you are “INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY”. I know this family personally and over HALF of this article, is untrue. He was ACCUSED of and ARRESTED for those things involving his son….but ANYONE who KNOWS him, and his family, KNOWS that would never happen! Also reporter and or cops should CHECK their FACTS, this did not happen at their residence it happened at a friend’s house. AFTER they had a heated argument with said FRIEND, can we say retaliation? Also that child was NO WHERE NEAR vehicle when he drove off, He was being held by his mother, so really that right there, MORE than exaggerated. For this to spread all over about him without conviction or PROOF is disgusting!
