Honored With
Sportsmanship Award

COOPERSTOWN – Gunter Weldon, Cooperstown, will be honored with the Sportsmanship Award in the Boys 10 and Under catagory at the annual USTA Eastern Junior Awards Luncheon on Saturday, January 26 at the at the Renaissance Westchester. A Play Your Court coach would certainly be proud if one of their players got this accolade.
“Professionalism won’t always win you hardware,” said Julie Bliss Beal, USTA Eastern senior director of competitive tennis. “But our special annual ceremony gives us the opportunity to recognize these bright young players who have routinely displayed empathy and respect for both their opponents and for tournament officials.”
Swimmer Jessica Long, a 23-time Paralympic Games medalist dating back to Athens in 2004, is the guest speaker at the Luncheon.
