IN MEMORIAM: Beverly Garretson, 89;

N.J. Native Raised 4 Sons In Cherry Valley

CHERRY VALLEY – Beverly Viola Lounsbury Garretson, 89, a farmer’s wife active in her church and community,  was called to her eternal resting place on Monday, June 24, 2019.

She was born at home in Plainfield, N.J., on Feb. 23, 1930, to Fred and Viola Lounsbury.  Beverly graduated from Plainfield High School in 1948 and went to Nursing School at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield, attaining her Registered Nursing degree in 1951.

She married Edward (Bud) Garretson on Feb. 23, 1952, in Plainfield, at the First Presbyterian Church.  They lived in Blairstown, N.J.  In the spring of 1970, they bought a farm and moved their family to Cherry Valley .

Beverly is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Edward (Bud),her twin sister Barbara Lounsbury Tillison, and her brother William Lounsbury (Goody), and she was predeceased by her younger sister Dorothy (Robert) Lounsbury Horton in sons children, William (Paula), James (Esther), Thomas (Amy), and David (Brenda); her many beloved grandchildren, Benjamin, Michelle, Shona(Dom), Monica(Kevin), Carie, James Jr., Celia(Ryan), Bethany(Andy), Mallory Viola, Christopher and Jonathon, and many cherished great-grandchildren.

At the First Presbyterian Church in Cherry Valley, she served in the following roles: The Ladies Society, trustee, January 1982-1987; elder, January 1972-1977, and January 1993-1998.  Also, for a total of 12 years,  and her greatest enjoyment came from many years of teaching Sunday School and caring for children in the nursery.

She volunteered faithfully at the Cherry Valley Museum and Bassett Hospital for many years.  It is her role as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that she will be best remembered.

The funeral service will at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cherry Valley, with a reception to follow.
