Bomb Threat At CSS

Determined To Be Hoax

COOPERSTOWN – A “non-specific” threat found outside the Cooperstown Junior/Senior High School library last night was determined to be a hoax after a search of the school grounds turned up no evidence of a bomb.

“Be assured that we will employ all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the students and staff here in the Cooperstown Central School District,” Superintendent CJ Hebert wrote in a letter sent home to parents. “Although we take any threat seriously, after thorough investigation, we do not believe that the safety of our students and staff is in jeopardy.”

Hebert said the school was working with the State Police to determine who was responsible for the threat and that an investigation was ongoing.  Writing a bomb threat is a class E felony punishable by incarceration in excess of one year.

He encouraged anyone with information about the incident to call the anonymous tip line, (607) 547- 4049.
