FRANKLIN – Richard “Dick” Frederick Lohrman, 89, formerly of Franklin, past CEO/secretary of the Otsego County Farmers Cooperative Insurance Co., passed away in his residence at St. James Manor on Sept. 22, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born in Corinth, Saratoga County.  He was the only child of Richard F. Lohrman and Martha A. (Balitz) Lohrman.

He was a 1947 graduate of Syracuse Central High School and a 1952 graduate of Hartwick College. While attending college, Richard served as a sergeant in the 108th Medical Division of the Army National Guard.

On June 14, 1953, he married his college sweetheart, Joan Bennett.

From 1972 to 1991, he led Otsego County Farmers Cooperative Insurance, now Leatherstocking Cooperative Insurance Co., Hartwick Seminary, then remained on the board of directors for an additional 11 years.

Richard was an avid philatelist and numismatist and served as president of the Tri-County Stamp Club. He was a former president of Franklin Rotary Club and member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge. He served as trustee of the Franklin Village Library. He was a 50-year member/EMT of the Franklin Fire Department’s Emergency Squad. He was a 65-year member of the Franklin United Methodist Church.

Richard will be remembered as a loving and deeply devoted husband, father, grandfather, colleague and friend. May the void he leaves behind be filled with cherished memories until we meet again.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan (Bennett) Lohrman; his two adoring daughters, Nancy Seiden of Kingston, Mass., Susan Lohrman along with her spouse, Alyssa Goldstein of Middletown; three grandsons, First Lt. Garrett Seiden of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Connor Seiden of Webster and Trevor Seiden of Kingston, Mass.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the United Methodist Church, 475 Main St., Franklin. A private burial for the family will be held in Ouleout Cemetery.

The family thanks each and every staff member at AM/PM Home Care Inc. for their compassionate care and support during the last year.
