Marshall Palmer

ONEONTA – Marshall M. Palmer, 83, of Binghamton, who retired from SUNY Oneonta’s University Police after 40 years of service to the campus, passed away Dec. 17, 2019, at Wilson Hospital, Binghamton, following an extended illness.

He was born on July 6, 1936, at Fox Hospital, Oneonta, the son of the late Harry and Ruth (Dalley) Palmer.

Marshall graduated from Oneonta High School in 1954, and began working as a groundsman at the State University College at Oneonta.  He retired in 1992 from the University Police after four decades of dedicated service in multiple capacities.

He was an active member of Main Street Baptist for almost 30 years until moving to Sidney and then Binghamton. He spent the last five years at Calvary’s Love Church in Johnson City.

Marshall enjoyed bowling, fishing, fellowship with friends, admiring his cardinals at the bird feeder and watching his grandchildren’s many athletic and extracurricular endeavors. He was known as their loudest and greatest cheerleader.

Marshall’s pride and joy was providing and taking care of his family and serving others. He was a dedicated and loving father and husband, with an extraordinary large servant’s heart. His presence, smile, energy and “whistling” will be sorely missed!

Marshall is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Regina. He is also survived by his three daughters, Sonya LaRose (Mark), Sharon Hanna (Ken) and Marsha Ward (Mark); 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Harry Jr., Robert and Wayne; and sisters, Shirley and Donna.

A celebration of life is planned for a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marshall’s honor to Calvary’s Love Men’s Ministry, 1315 Reynolds Road, Johnson City, NY 13790, www.Calvaryslove.org.
