IN MEMORIAM: Richard ‘Dick’ Pindar, 90;
Owned Cross Supply Co., Dick’s Golf Shop
ONEONTA — Richard “Dick” Pindar, 90, of Oneonta, owner of Cross Supply Co. who, on retiring, started Dick’s Golf Shop, offering custom clubs and professional repairs, passed away on Jan. 22, 2020, at Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing.
He had been residing at Heritage at The Plains at Parish Homestead for the past two years.
He was born on Sept. 6, 1929, in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of Albert P. Pindar and Dorothy (Tipple) Pindar. He graduated from Oneonta High School.
He married Patricia “Patt” Cross Pindar on July 8, 1950, at First United Presbyterian Church in Oneonta. Dick and Patt celebrated 66 years together in 2016.
After high school he served in the Marine Corps from 1946 to 1952. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant. After his discharge he worked for Cross Supply Inc., for 43 years. When the owner retired, Dick and Patt purchased the business.
Dick was a member of First United Presbyterian Church for many years and served as a trustee.
Dick was a member of the following organizations: Oneonta Jaycees (vice president), life member of the American Legion, VFW, Marine Corps League, Oneonta Elks Lodge and the Professional Clubmakers Society.
Dick was an avid reader and also enjoyed working on crossword puzzle books. He also enjoyed playing pool.
Fresh out of the Marine Corps the year before, in 1953, Dick was one of 12 founding members of the Marine Corps League Oneonta Detachment.
Dick was an avid golfer. At retirement he started Dick’s Golf Shop, offering custom clubs and professional repairs. Dick had the rare opportunity to play in the BC Open Pro-Am at EnJoie Golf Course in Endicott on his birthday on Sept. 6, 1989.
Dick was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, on Feb. 13, 2017.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Steve Mongillo; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Lisa Pindar; five grandchildren, Monica Mongillo Jakiel and husband, Jonathan, Jared Mongillo and Amanda Lyons, Todd Mongillo and girlfriend, Kennie Johnson, Katharyn Pindar Ridgeway and husband, David, and Christopher Pindar; five great-grandchildren, Bryce Mongillo, James Collins, Alexander Jakiel, Cecilia Mongillo and Benjamin Ridgeway; two step-grandchildren, Jillian Rumenapp Eastman and husband, Christopher and Joshua Rumenapp and wife, Lindsey; and two step-great-grandchildren, Alexander and Abigail Eastman.
Calling hours and services will be announced at a later date at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, or Susquehanna SPCA building fund.
