IN MEMORIAM: Patricia S. Ryan, 61;

Worked At Popp Butterfly Conservancy

LAURENS – Patricia Susan Ryan, 61, Laurens, who worked at Popp Butterfly Conservatory in Oneonta with sister, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 26, 2015.

She was born on Aug. 24, 1954, in Forest Hills, Queens, the daughter of William J. Ryan and Gloria T. Ryan.  Patty graduated from Unatego High School and attended college at Hofstra University and the Women’s Technical Institute in Boston.

She had a curious nature and love of travel, which led her all around the world with Semester at Sea. Patty loved the outdoors and walking through the woods with her other “son” Rocky.

She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle manner and was so loved by her family and friends, with whom she loved to laugh and joke.  Her children were her life and she took great pride in their accomplishments.

She is survived by her children, Connor Ryan (Alexandra) of Watertown, Mass., Victoria Ryan (Karim) of Washington, D.C., and Ian Ryan of Oneonta; sisters, Christine Ryan of Oneonta, Karyn Sorbera of Williamsport, Tina (Michael) Matauic of Saylorsburn, PA; nieces and nephews Maedbh Ryan; Kelly, Alex, and Danny Sorbera, Tina, Mike, Jennifer, and Billy Matauic; Eileen (Julio) Echeverria; and long-time friends, Danny Muldoon and Georgina Acosta.

Patty was predeceased by her parents, William and Gloria Ryan, and her nephew, Corey Sorbera.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 31, at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta.  Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Calling hours will be 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, in advance of the funeral, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home.
