Police Reported ‘Multiple’

Thefts From Unlocked Cars

COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown police today reported “multiple” thefts from unlocked vehicles in the village between midnight Wednesday and 3-4 a.m.  Thursday, and advised residents to lock their cars.

The investigation determined loose change and any cash increments were the only items taken, if at all, as some vehicles were just left in disarray.

During interviews it was also determined that only vehicles were the focal point. No homes were entered.

This remains an active investigation with assist from the county Sheriff’s Department, as similar incidents were also reported in Fly Creek.  Recently, state police at Oneonta reported a similar series of larcenies.

  1. One Christmas Eve many years ago, I left my car unlocked in our driveway near Chestnut and Lake. Thieves took all my cassette tapes, and they stole all of our next-door neighbor’s Christmas presents from their trunk! Hard to believe in our quaint little village, but better to be safe than sorry. Lesson? Lock your doors!

  2. March of this year my friend stopped by.Her car doors dont lock. A carton of cigarettes and her purse was taken from her car on chestnut street. About two months ago my neighbor at same residence vandalized my camera and my car. I guarantee all these crimes come back to drug addicts as that was the case with the innocents I mentioned.
