Aiesha Battle, Director of the Division of Consumer Protection, addresses a packed house of local seniors who came out to attend an information forum on senior scam prevention held this morning at Elm Park Methodist Church, Oneonta. Scammers can pose as the IRS, prescription discount plans, a foreign lottery or even a hurt grandchild in order to get personal information, and Battle recommended that in the event of such a call, get a phone number and offer to call back after researching the organization or family member’s whereabouts.  “They play on your emotions,” she said.  “If someone is asking you for money on a wire transfer or a pre-paid card, it’s a scam. If you have to pay money to get money, it’s a scam.” (Ian Austin/AllOTSEGO.com)
