Emergency personnel treat one of the drivers in Tuesday’s crash at Route 166 and Cornish Hill Road, Town of Middlefield.

MIDDLEFIELD – Tuesday morning’s head-on collision on Route 166 at Cornish Hill Road happened because one of the drivers was in the wrong lane, the county Sheriff Department reports.

The investigation found skid marks showing George Murray, 67, was driving south in the northbound lane when his car collided with a second one, driven by Susan Edmonds, 49, Cherry Valley.

Both drivers were transported to Bassett Hospital.

Emergency units from the Cooperstown and Middlefield Fire Departments as well as a CMT medical unit responded to the scene.
