IN MEMORIAM: Vivian M. Brown, 85;
Seven Children Survive Oneonta Woman
ONEONTA – Vivian M. (Goodspeed) Brown, 85, of Oneonta, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, at Fox Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 29, 1932, in New Berlin, to the late LeRoy C. and Rose V. (Decker) Goodspeed. She married Robert A. Brown on Sept. 10, 1949; they had 58 years together before he predeceased her on May 13, 2008. He was a D&H retiree.
For many years, Vivian was a stay-at-home mom, but in later years she worked at FBC and JJ Newberry, and later retired from Aramark Food Services. In more recent years, she did volunteer work in the Hospice Thrift Store.
She is a past member of the F.O.E. Ladies Auxilliary.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Carole) Brown, Cheryl (Frank) Woodcock, Bruce (Robin) Brown, Nancy (Stan) Meyers, James (Yon) Brown, Lee Brown, and Michael (Nicole) Brown; 19 grandchildren, plus their spouses and/or significant others; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers and a sister, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by a son, David; two brothers; and a sister.
Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1, with the Rev. Donna Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the A.O. Fox Nursing Home Activities Department.
