Brooklyn Man, 25, Suspected
Of Passing Counterfeit Bills
ONEONTA – A Brooklyn man has been charged with nine felony charges after he was found in possession of counterfeit money after a traffic stop.
State Police at Oneonta today said an officer arrested Mamadou P. Barry, 25, of Brooklyn, after a traffic stop at 12:02 a.m. on Oct. 24 after seeing him using an “electronic device” while speeding on Route 28.
When the trooper tried to stop the car, the suspect threw paper-like objects out the window. Other troopers and a deputy from the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department assisted in retrieving what they determined were counterfeit $50 and $100 bills.
An investigation revealed the counterfeit bills have been passed on separate dates at three businesses on Oneonta’s Southside.
He was arraigned in Oneonta Town Court and remanded to Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond. His next appearance is Nov. 15. If there is someone on the outside who is able to bail him out, then Mamadou will be set free. But if not, he always has the option of getting in touch with a company that provides bail bonds for the Santa Ana Jail, for example, or in his case, the Otsego County Jail.
Barry was arrested on six counts of the felony of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the first degree and three counts of the felony Tampering with Physical Evidence.
