IN MEMORIAM: Thomas D. McCarthy,
Retired From Career In Agriculture
CHERRY VALLEY – Thomas D. McCarthy, who spent his career in the agricultural field, peacefully passed away on Nov. 1, 2018, surrounded by his wife and children.
Born to the late William C. and Anna (Ryder) McCarthy, of Cherry Valley, he graduated from Cherry Valley Central School and, in 1957, from SUNY Cobleskill with a degree in Agriculture.
Tom worked for Canajoharie Co-op, Dairylea, NEDCO and Farmland Dairies. He retired from Country Folks, the weekly farming newspaper published by Lee Publications, Palatine Bridge.
He was an active member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Cherry Valley.
Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Roberta (Olmsted); two sons, Thomas W. (Kathy) and John P., and one daughter, Suzanne McCarthy-Sheppeck (John). Also, a sister, Rosemary Porteus; three brothers, William, James and Michael, and four grandsons, one granddaughter and several great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his sister, Gloria McCarthy, sister-in-law, Theresa M. McCarthy and nephew, Patrick Porteus.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. A mass will follow at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at the Tryon Inn, 124 Main St.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cherry Valley EMS or St. Thomas the Apostle Church.
