IN MEMORIAM: Dean G. Utter, 78;

Farmer Was ONC BOCES President

Dean G. Utter

CHERRY VALLEY – Dean Grover Utter, 78, a lifelong farmer, school board member and former ONC BOCES board president, passed away Nov. 15, 2018, at Bassett Hospital after a sudden illness.

He was born on April 12, 1940, to Almond Grover Utter and Evelyn Prime Utter of Cherry Valley. He graduated from Cherry Valley Central School, and attended Syracuse University and Cornell University.

He was the loving husband of the late Karen Louise (Parsons) Utter, whom he married on May 5, 1962.

He spent his entire life working on the family farm in Cherry Valley.  He was a member of the Otsego County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of the Cherry Valley school board and member and president of the ONC BOCES board.

Dean is survived by his children Penelope, Matthew and Rebecca; son-in-law Stan Smith; daughter-in-law Jodi Utter, and his brother Derwin Utter.

He was the loving grandfather of Kaitlyn and her husband JT, and of Bryan, Jonathan, Grace, Kenyon and Eli.  He is survived by his great-grandson, Matthew and numerous nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at First Presbyterian Church, 56 Alden St., Cherry Valley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nephrology Social Services Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, at bostonchildrens.org/givenow, or by mailing a check to Division of Nephrology BCH, 300 Longwood Ave., BCH 3038, Boston, MA 02215. Please include Dean’s name in the memo line and specify designation of donation to Nephrology Social Services Program.
