Was Senate ‘Woman Of Distinction’

Angie Nielsen

ONEONTA – Angeline M. Nielsen, 92, a retired school teacher who was named state Senate “Woman of Distinction” in 2007, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019, at Chestnut Park Rehab & Nursing Center.

She was born on June 5, 1926, in Oneonta, the daughter of Carmen and Mary Anna (Volpe) Joy.

Angeline retired from the Oneonta City School District as an elementary school teacher, and then sold real estate for the Benson Agency.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and the Rosary Society, and was active in the Republican Party. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Oneonta Country Club.

Angeline is survived by her sons, Reginald T. Nielsen of Oneonta and Thomas J. Nielsen of Vancouver, B.C.; a brother, Michael Joy of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Tony and Mel Joy; and three sisters, Mary Packer, Jane Rhody and Sister Florence Joy.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are asked to be made to St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.
