IN MEMORIAM: Bill Naragon, 73, Oneonta;

Laurens Teacher, Wife Bought, Sold Jewelry

ONEONTA – William “Bill” Paul Naragon, 73, a retired Laurens teacher who developed a business in fine jewelry with his wife, passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2019.

William was the husband of the late Claudia B. Naragon. Bill and Claudia shared 48 years of marriage together.
He was the son of Francis E. Naragon and Dora I. Naatz, born on April 13, 1946.

He graduated from Laurens Central School and attended Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Oneonta,  where he obtained his master’s degree in teaching.

Bill began his career at Richmondville High School and continued on to become a science teacher at Laurens Central School for more than 20 years until his retirement.

Bill enjoyed life and had many hobbies and activities in life such as hunting for gems and jewelry with his loving wife Claudia. They both built a jewelry business where they cut stones and made fine jewelry together and traveled to shows around the area showing and selling their beautiful work.

Bill also enjoyed science and discussing all of its wonders with anyone that was willing to listen. He also enjoyed reading science fiction and listening and sometimes playing his guitar to the music that he loved.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family. He cared and loved his children and grandchildren very much and would do all in his power to motivate, inspire, in order to help them succeed in life.

He is survived by his children, a son, William G. Naragon and his wife, Gretchen and daughter, Renee M. Wong. Five grandchildren also survive him, Isabella A. Naragon, Sophia R. Naragon, Julianna A. Naragon, Ares J. Wong and Jordan T. Wong.

At Bill’s request, there will be no funeral services or visiting hours. His family will have a celebration of life in his memory sometime in August.

Contributions in his memory may be made in his name to Catskill Area Hospice. Hospice was very much appreciated by Bill and his family in the latter part of his wife Claudia’s life by making her final days comfortable.
