MORRIS – Charles D. Henness Sr., 54, Morris fire chief for the past two years, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018.
Charlie was born in Oneonta, the son of Theron and Shirley (Wood) Henness.
Charlie lived in Morris, with his fiancé, Lisa Squires, in his home that he often enjoyed working on with his family.
He enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on cars in his spare time and will be well-remembered for his sarcasm and for always telling it like it was, whether you liked it or not.
Charlie was a selfless man and dedicated his time as a volunteer firefighter, serving as the chief of the Morris Fire Department over the past two years.
Charlie is survived by his fiancé, Lisa Squires; his daughter, Heather (Bruce) Chandler, and his three sons, Charles (Alicia) Henness Jr., Joseph Henness and Robert Henness; his father, Theron Henness, and his brother, Anthony Henness.
He was predeceased by his mother, Shirley (Wood) Henness and his brothers, Richard and Bob Henness.
The family extends a special thank you to Ted Johnston for all he has done for them.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Morris Fire Department, 117 E. Main St., Morris. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bekah Solar officiating. Firefighters will honor Charlie with a parade on Sept. 29.
