IN MEMORIAM: Edward J. Rood, 73;
Hartwick Town Road Superintendent
HARTWICK – The funeral is Friday for Edward J. Rood, 73, former Town of Hartwick highway superintendent, who passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.
He was born in New Hartford on July 8, 1945, the son of the late Robert Rood Sr and Florence (Mykel) Rood. He married Linda (Armstrong) Rood on Sept. 14, 1968 at the Baptist church in Hartwick.
Drafted at 21 , he served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1971.
After the service Ed went to work for the Town of New Lisbon and resided in Garrattsville. In 1976 he moved back to Hartwick and went to work for the Town of Hartwick. Ed worked for the town for over 40 years, retiring after 27 as highway superintendent.
Ed was known for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a caring husband a devoted father and very proud grandfather.
He is survived by his wife Linda of 50 years, his son Brian and his wife Cassy of Marcy, his daughter Jeanette (Rood) Huestis and her husband John of Laurens, and his grandchildren Josh and Megan Rood and Kaylee Huestis. He is also survived by his brother Mykel Rood and his wife Deb of Burlington Flats, two sisters, Mary Bush and her husband John of Hartwick, and Ruth Turnbull of Edmeston, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers Robert, William, Lawrence Rood and his sisters Gladys Eldred, Dorothy Roberts and Patricia Deforest.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society or Catskill Area Hospice.Graveside services will be held in Hartwick Cemetery at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 5.
