Hyde Hall’s New Carpet

Celebrated At Reception

Hyde Hall benefactor Bob Gipson, left, talks with the National Historic Landmark’s business manager, Patricia Monroe, this afternoon at a champagne reception organized to celebrate this week’s installation of a historic carpet in the diningroom. The carpet was designed to echo George Hyde Clarke’s original carpet by David Hunt of the Vermont Custom Rug Co. and manufactured to specifications by the Langhorne Carpet Co. in Penndel, Pa. In the early 19th century, looped-pile construction Brussels-type carpets were often installed in the homes of wealthy Americans. Gipson, an investor based in New York City who maintains a home in Unadilla, operates the Tianaderrah Foundation for philanthropic purposes, and offered a $100,000 matching grant to Hyde Hall; the match was achieved in recent weeks, and the carpet is one the projects benefitting. At right, Gib Vincent, Hyde Hall board chairman, chats with guests. (Jim Kevlin /AllOTSEGO.com)
