On County, Town Races

Polls are open around Otsego County until 9 p.m. this evening for county board, town board, Oneonta Common Council and three state Supreme Court vacancies.

There is particular interest in the county board’s District 3 (Laurens-Otego), where Republican Rick Brockway and Democrat Caitlin Ogden are vying to succeed Kathy Clark, the former board chairman.   If Brockway wins, the board will likely remain Republican; if Ogden, it would shift to Democratic control.

In Oneonta, Republicans and Democrats are contesting Common Council seats in five wards.   Currently, only one Republican serves on Common Council, Russ Southard, and he is retiring.

In the Town of Richfield, an ongoing struggle will be resolved between proponents of Protect Richfield, which took control of a comprehension plan revision to bar wind turbines from the town and sought to limit growth.  The Republican ticket of Nick Palevsky for supervisor and Fred Eckler and Ed Bello Jr. for town board, who are running against David Simonds for supervisor and Jeremy Fisher and Kane Seamon for town board.   Fisher is on the Demcratic line; Simonds and Seamon are on independent lines.
