PUBLIC HEARING TUESDAY IN MILFORD

Route 28 Bridge Rehab in 2017

May Close Road, Cause Detour

dotMILFORD – The state Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will hold a public meeting Tuesday on plans to rehabilitate a Route 28 bridge just north of the Robert V. Riddell State Park and I-88.

Under consideration are plans to close the bridge completely during the 2017 construction, causing a six-minute detour via I-88, Exit 16 and Routes 7 and 992G.  Or temporary signals would allow single lane traffic to go back and forth.

The public information meeting will be Milford Central School. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with a formal presentation beginning at 7.

The bridge, built in 1985, carried Route 28 over Route 7, and is also used by the Norfolk Southern main rail line.

The purpose of the meeting is to share and exchange information with the public regarding the project and its potential impacts, including proposed work zone traffic control options to manage traffic during construction, according to Dave Hamburg, the DOT’s regional spokesman

The project, which is approaching final design, proposes to replace the existing superstructure, including bridge deck and beams.  The new superstructure will maintain the existing 12-foot lanes and eight-foot shoulders in each travel lane. Construction will address identified structural deficiencies and extend the bridge’s useful life upon completion.

Construction is anticipated to begin in the 2017 construction season. Construction completion will be determined by final selection of work zone traffic controls.

For more information about the project, please contact Kim Nichols, P.E., Project Manager, who can be reached by mail at Region 9 Design, 44 Hawley Street, Binghamton, NY 13901; or by email at Kim.Nichols@dot.ny.gov; or by telephone at (607) 721-8191.

Grand Union set for Hartwick Seminary after FTC OKs Price Chopper/Tops merger Last year’s merger putting competing grocers Price Chopper and Tops under a single parent company left local shoppers wondering the fate of branded stores in Otsego County. As a condition of approving the merger, the Federal Trade Commission required proposed parent company Northeast Grocery to divest its interest in a dozen stores — among them the Tops Market on Route 28 in Hartwick Seminary. C&S Wholesale Grocers, a century-old supplier to independent grocery stores throughout the country, purchased the stores in question and, in the next few months,…
