Airlifted In Fatal Crash

Sherburne Man Dies In Head-On Collision

COLUMBUS – A 46-year-0ld Schuyler Lake woman was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, after a fatal crash shut down Chenango County Route 25 in the Town of Columbus for several hours Saturday morning, Troop C reports.

State Police at Norwich were dispatched to a head-on collision at 1:34 a.m., Saturday.

An investigation revealed that a 27-year-old male from Sherburne was traveling west on County Road 25 when he crossed into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An Edmeston woman, a passenger his car, was transported to Bassett Hospital by CMT Ambulance.

The Schuyler Lake woman sustained severe injuries but is expected to survive.

None of the three were identified by name.

Troop C’s Collision Reconstruction Unit was on scene and continues to investigate the crash.  The road was reopened just after 7 a.m.
