After Assault With Baton

Edward Ferrall

ONEONTA – Police arrested a SUNY Oneonta student after reports of a fight that left the victim with a skull laceration and a brain hemorrhage.

Edward J. Ferrall, 23, Lynbrook, was arrested after police were called to the Westcott parking lot at 2:23 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 following the report of a fight. Further investigation found a group of onlookers surrounding a male who was laying on the ground, having allegedly been struck with a collapsible police-style baton. The victim allegedly jumped up and started chasing Ferrall, and both were stopped by police.

Further investigation revealed that an altercation allegedly started at Jimmy T’s. The victim told police that he had tried to calm the fight, but was instead pushed by the male later identified as Ferrall. The baton allegedly used in the assault was later located in the vicinity.

The victim of the assault sustained an approximately 1 cm laceration to his skull, which was also fractured, resulting in a brain hemorrhage.  The victim was transported to Albany medical center, later released and is expected to make a full recovery.

Ferrall was arrested for the felonies of Assault in the first degree, Class B Felony, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Class E felony, and the misdemeanors of Menacing in the second degree, Criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and Resisting Arrest, all Class A misdemeanors. If convicted of all charges, he faces 32 years incarceration.
